Turkey
Run Workshop
April 22-25, 2008
Workshop Location
We hold our workshop at the historic Turkey Run
Inn nestled among the dogwoods and redbuds in
Indiana's scenic Turkey
Run State Park. The Inn offers excellent dining
and accommodations at affordable prices. Its modern
conference center facilities provide the setting
for daytime and evening slide illustrated lectures.
Turkey Run State Park preserves 2,182 acres of
"primitive" America. Melting glacial
ice and debris carved the Sugar Creek streambed
out of sandstone as well as many of the canyons
in the park. Rich flood plain soils nourish stands
of giant sycamores and tracts of virgin hardwoods.
Wildflowers carpet the forest floor making this
area a nature photography paradise. The park is
situated in Parke
County which has more covered bridges than
any other county on America - 32 in all!
Workshop Description
With a low student to instructor ratio, you will
receive as much individual attention as you want.
We will answer your questions about photographic
equipment and technique using hands on demonstrations
to illustrate the information. The workshop is
designed to take advantage of good shooting conditions
in the morning and evening when the light is suitable
for photography. Sunrise will find us in the field
where we'll continue shooting until mid morning.
During the harsh light of midday we will gather
in the conference center for illustrated lectures
on composition, light, technique, equipment, and
digital photography in addition to other topics
of interest to photographers. In the afternoon
we'll head out to another location and shoot until
sunset.
Field trips concentrate on nature, landscape
and covered bridge photography - with a few surprises
thrown in. Most of the shooting locations are
fairly close to the car, although participants
must be able to negotiate moderate inclines or
steps to reach prime shooting spots at some locations.
The workshop starts on Tuesday evening at 6:00
PM. Plan to eat before you come to the first session.
After introductions and orientation, we'll get
started with instructional programs. Wednesday
offers a morning and evening field trip with classroom
instruction during the day. The instructors are
familiar with the area and will choose the field
trip location based on the conditions. Thursday
follows the same schedule, but culminates in an
evening group meal at a restaurant in the nearby
village of Rockville. Friday morning, we'll return
to the field for a final outing.
Workshop Lodging and Meals
Each participant will be responsible for their
own lodging and meals. However, Turkey Run Inn
is holding several rooms for our workshop participants.
Let us know if you need accommodations and we'll
help you with arrangements. The cost for a single
bed room is approximately $59, and $69 for a double
bed room (plus tax). Camping facilities are close
by for the adventurous type. The dining room serves
from 7:00 AM until 9:00 PM every day.
Workshop Tuition
Tuition is $225.00 per person which includes
instructional sessions, field trips, and instructional
materials.
A $100 deposit is required at the time of registration.
The balance is payable 30 days prior to the start
of the workshop. Your deposit is refundable in
full up to 30 days before the workshop. If we
cancel the workshop for any reason, we will refund
all payments in full, but we cannot be responsible
for any other fees you incurred.
